Meet Dottie and her Furry Friends at Heal Animal Rescue!

Summary

On Friday May 26th, Smail Employees got the opportunity to check in on Dottie and her furry friends at Heal Animal Rescue! Smail Employees also made a donation of food, treats, and toys for the animals at Heal.

Heal Animal Rescue

Heal Animal Rescue located in Youngwood, PA was originally named “Animal Friends of Westmoreland” and officially opened to the public in 2009. The rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit no-kill adoption center and sanctuary. The mission of Heal is to care for abused and neglected animals. Their goal is to eventually find them their forever home for those in care at the adoption center. Since then the rescue has grown and in 2017 Heal opened up a farm sanctuary. The farm sanctuary is located in Latrobe, PA and houses many different farm animals who were victims of abuse and neglect. These farm animals now call Heal home!

Dottie

As many locals may have already seen, Dottie was a recent news story. Dottie was brought into Heal Animal Rescue after being found along Route 136 near Millersdale Road in Hempfield Township. Dottie was not going to last had she not been brought in when she did. She is now in good hands at Heal in hopes to get back to a healthy weight. Heal Adoption Center is currently housing dogs, cats, and one rabbit! The adoption center temporarily housing these animals in hopes of being fostered or adopted. All animals are provided food, shelter, medical care, and of course love and attention!

Farm Sanctuary

Heal Animal Sanctuary is home to a variety of farm animals such as chickens, cows, pigs, goats, and sheep! The farm is located on 62-acres of land and provides these farm animals with food, shelter, care, and comfort!

Adopt

One of the biggest ways to help out Heal Animal Rescue Adoption Center is to ADOPT! In order to add a new furry family member into your house you must: be 21 years of age or older, having legal identification, housing permitting breed and size, time and resources to properly care for the pet, commitment to time, love, and patience towards adjustments, and all other pets in the home must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on rabies and distemper vaccinations.

In order to ensure the best possible adoption process Heal will help find the best match for both the animal and the human. Same-day adoptions are not available due to needing time for background checks and other necessities, along with a meet and greet. All animals also receive veterinarian care prior to adoption.

Foster

Heal Animal Rescue offers a Foster Care Program for those interested and qualified to foster an animal from Heal. Fosters are needed for animals that are orphaned puppies or kittens, pregnant moms, moms with babies. adult dogs and cats in need of socialization, and dogs or cats treated for or recuperating from medical conditions.

Heal covers all the veterinary care, medicine, pet food, and supplies costs!
